All-rounder White added to Americas Cup team

Somerset all-rounder Wendell White has been brought into Bermuda's senior national cricket squad for the Americas Cup following the withdrawal of Albert Steede and Jermaine Postlethwaite.

"Wendell White has been brought into the team to replace one of the guys,'' said national coach Mark Harper yesterday. "He brings all-round ability into the team, he is a left-handed all-rounder who bats and bowls.''

Unlike many of the other senior players who showed apathy towards training since the squad was assembled late last summer, White has been making regular appearances and was a surprise absentee from the original squad that was announced to tour.

Harper said that White was a "very capable cricketer'' and would be a more than adequate addition to the team for next month's tournament.

Meanwhile, rumours circulating around the squad suggest that some of the players are concerned about their safety in South America.

Argentina's perilous financial status has led to widespread rioting in the streets of the capital Buenos Aires, and, although reassurances have been given it is thought some players may not be too convinced.

In addition to White it is understood that another veteran allrounder, Dennis Archer, is ready to play if and when places become available.
