All-Stars head for Halifax
St. George's All-Stars will warm up for the new Commercial League football season with a demanding, short tour of Halifax, Nova Scotia starting this weekend.
The tour party of 14 leave Bermuda today to compete in the over-35 International Masters Soccer Tournament hosted by Assante Sporting Rangers. A total of eight teams are competing in the event, six from Canada, one from Washington DC as well as the All-Stars.
The tournament will mark the opening of the Soccer Nova Scotia Complex.
The All-Stars will play two 80-minute minute matches on Saturday and another two on Sunday as they contest a spot in the group stage.
"Our association with Halifax goes back to 1984, our second year of existence when we took a tour of Halifax and played a couple of exhibition games up there," said club official Stephen Paynter.
It came about through St. Georgian Dwight Denbrook who helped the All-Stars gain entry into the tournament.
"We're enthused about going, it's going to be a springboard for the upcoming season," said Paynter.
