Forget Tim Conley, P.H. Horgan and co. . . . the golfing talk at Belmont Hills yesterday was all about veteran golfer and former national team cricketer Eldon Raynor.
The 71-year-old achieved what many his age can only dream of. He shot his age, firing a superb one-over-par 71 which included the best front nine score of any amateur player in this week?s Gosling?s Invitational.
Raynor returned a sizzling four-under-par 31 on the front nine which included an amazing five consecutive birdies from holes four through eight.
He then toured the back nine in five-over-par 40 to complete one of the best scores by an amateur this week.
