And trouble too at Sunday's other Premier match

Southampton Oval was not the only venue where violence took place on Sunday as a North Village Rams player was allegedly robbed of jewellery following the Premier Division clash involving Rams and Dandy Town at St.John?s Field.

According to sources present at the Pembroke ground, Reggie Lowe ? who transferred to Rams from Southampton Rangers over the off-season ? reportedly had a gold chain ripped from his neck during a brief altercation with an assailant subsequently subdued by security guards and escorted off the premises.

?I heard someone shouting ?there?s a fight inside?. I tried to run inside the building, but I couldn?t get in because there were so many people blocking the entrance,? one source told yesterday.

?So I ran around the other side of the building where I saw Lowe just standing there. I could sense that something had happened to him, but I didn?t see any scuffle. I was told there had been a brief fight but it had ended before I got there while another man who was involved had already been taken outside the grounds.?

When contacted, a Western Stars Sports Club spokesperson stated: ?Our security team (Deep Dale Security) quickly took control and escorted the person off the premises. I did not actually witness the incident, but from what I gather a fan attacked Reggie (Lowe) as he came out of the changing room.?

A spokesperson from the local security firm who helped break up the skirmish recalled: ?We were actually standing beside the bar when a scuffle involving two men broke out.

?We then broke up the fight which lasted less than two-minutes.?

The source said the gold chain which was snatched from around the player?s neck was later retrieved ? though without the accompanying pendent.

Meanwhile, Rams? coaches Dwayne Adams and Maceo Dill opted not to comment on the matter which occurred on the same day violence broke out at another Premier Division clash at Southampton Oval where there was a fight between a large group of men, some of them armed with machetes.

Lowe had earlier played an integral role in Rams? second and third goals during their comprehensive defeat of arch-rival Hornets.

Police were not called to the incident.
