Angler Trott boats `world record' bonito
Angler Patrick Trott finished out of the prizes during Sunday's delayed Bacardi Fishing Tournament.
But his reward could be the biggest catch of all - a new world record.
Fishing onboard the boat Playmate, Trott hooked and landed a 53-lb 3oz bonito on 50-lb test line which is believed to be a world best. It must first, however, be ratified by the International Game Fishing Association.
Meanwhile, Neil Burnie, skippering his Class A boat, Bones, walked way with the coveted Bacardi Rum Trophy, while Werner Stegman fishing onboard the same craft, was the high point angler in the popular tournament.
Postponed a week earlier, the event eventually went ahead with 273 anglers fishing on 64 boats. Of those, 23 craft weighed in a total of 87 fish.
But it was Burnie who led the way with a points total of 211.2 - 100.2 of which came from the rod of Stegman.
Class A was limited to boats of over 27 feet.
High point lady angler was Tammy Jones, fishing on the boat Lonestar, while the heaviest fish of the day was a 64-lb 9oz amberjack landed by David Soares on Kerry D.
Brian Mello's Bite Me seized Class B (under 27 feet) honours with 139.6 points while Brian Lines earned top place in Class C (for professional boats) on his craft Margin Call, with 128.8 points.
Altogether, the Dockyard weigh-in station handled 30 yellowfin tuna, 23 wahoo, 25 blackfin tuna, six bonitos, two amberfish and one barracuda.
