BAA skin Onions for third win

Saleem Mukuddem: Scored opening goal for Lobster Pot in 2-2 draw with Robin Hood.

Early Commercial A Division pace setters BAA stormed to their third straight win of the season after shutting out neighbouring rivals MR Onions 3-0 at BAA Field last Saturday.

With defending league champions Robin Hood being held to a 2-2 draw against Lobster Pot at Bernard Park, BAA took full advantage to go four points clear of second placed Hood at the top of the standings.

The home team prevailed over winless Onions thanks to strikes from Brian Crook, Martin Jones and David Youens.

At nearby Bernard Park, Alex McClaughlin scored three minutes from time to earn defending Commercial A Division champions Robin Hood a hard fought 2-2 draw against Pot.

During a pulsating 90 minutes of non-stop end-to-end action, Pot stung Hood twice shortly before the break to take a 2-0 lead into the dressing room.

Saleem Mukuddem forged Pot ahead in the 43rd minute with a beautifully taken goal before Dave Allison doubled the visitors lead four minutes later.

Hood came storming back at their opponents after the restart and for long periods had Pot on the defensive.

The defending champions finally received reward for their relentless pressure when Paul McCluskey converted in the 54th minute to set the stage for McLaughlin's late dramatics. Hood have now drawn two of their three matches so far this season.

Also at Bernard Park, North Village Rams capped off a late second-half revival to grab a 3-3 draw against PHC Raiders.

Earlier, Raiders appeared to have extended the match well beyond their hosts' reach after Keith Bell, Sammy Swan (penalty) and Michael Trott all converted to provide the visitors with a comfortable 3-0 first-half cushion.

However, Rams' never-say-die approach finally paid off in the second-half with Ricky Hill notching two goals and Stevie Dickinson (penalty) grabbing the other.

Both teams created additional chances to grab all the spoils, however. Raiders had a late goal disallowed for offside, while Rams' Kenny Thompson and Hill wasted golden opportunities to score with only 'keeper Ty Williams to contend with.

Prior to Saturday's match, Rams had yet to see any action after their matches against Devonshire All-Stars and Tuff Dogs were both called off.

Elsewhere, Key West Rangers finally picked up their first win of the season after getting by St.George's All-Stars 3-1 at Wellington Oval.

Richard Wilson hit the target twice for Rangers, while former Somerset Trojan Vernal Cann grabbed the visitors' other. Herbie Bascome replied for All-Stars who slumped to their third straight defeat.

The match between Tuff Dogs and Devonshire All-Stars at BAA Field failed to get underway due to the wedding of yet another Tuff Dogs player. It was the second time in two weeks Tuff Dogs have had a match called off due to a wedding.

In B Division action, league leaders Dockyard Falcons kept their unbeaten start to the season intact after handing fellow west enders Somerset Extros a 4-2 loss at Malabar. Kwesi Hollis scored two goals and Dwyane (Box) DeRosa and Sean Symonds also got their names on the scoresheet.

Former Southampton Rangers skipper, Edgar Smith, grabbed both of Extros' goals in a match which was originally scheduled to be played at Somerset Cricket Club but later switched because the field was still unfit for play.

Also at Malabar, Devonshire Lions picked up their first win of the season after clawing their way to a 4-2 win over Prison Officers. Former Cougar, Phillip Clarke, netted two goals to spearhead the visitors' charge with other conversions coming via the boots of Marcel Sheppard and Roger Cox.

Valley, meanwhile, won by default over Prospect/Fire at Shelly Bay Field, while visiting Somerset Eagles handed Wolves Pack a 4-2 defeat at the same venue. Eagles soared to their second win of the season courtesy of goals from Troy Smith, Terrance Bean and Dion Minors, while Jerome Richards netted his third goal in as many matches. There was no further information on this match.

At Shelly Bay, Vasco Mariners picked up their second win of the season when they handed Bermuda Pest Control a 3-0 defeat.

Mariners, who have yet to concede a goal after 180 minutes of play, prevailed through goals from Mark DeMoura, Michael Bean and Paul Frias.
