Back to our winning ways!
We pulled off a notable victory at the weekend with our 1-0 success over Wigan and I was happy to have been a part of it.
After being on the bench for the previous three games, it was good to be back in the starting eleven and for such an important game as well.
At the time Wigan were top of the league and beating them was vitally important, not only because we were at home, but because the three points moved us up the table, while putting the brakes on one of the teams ahead of us.
As a result of our win we moved up to tenth, while Wigan dropped to fourth.
With the busy Christmas period just ahead of us we need to be in that group of teams fighting for play-off spots and automatic promotion and the win should give us the confidence to push on.
Wigan had the air of a team that had been in Division One for a long time, not one that had only been promoted at the end of last season. They are not arrogant, but they have a confident attitude about themselves.
Our plan was to basically get in amongst them, get in their faces and set the tempo and build from there. We knew that if we could stop them playing and create opportunities of our own then our crowd would certainly be behind us.
They are a team that are geared towards going forward. When a ball comes through the middle, the midfielders run and follow the pass, effectively giving them a front six, never mind a front two or three.
So we had to be at our best, especially at the back, and although it wasn't the prettiest of games we got the desired result.
As I said, I was happy to be back in the team after my time on the bench. I had played 45 minutes in the reserves in midweek but although I hoped to start I wasn't certain I would.
I had to work hard throughout and, even though I didn't get on the scoresheet, I was happy with my performance.
I was in there challenging for the cross that led to our goal but it was too high for me and ended up going to Andy Hughes who headed home.
That seems to be the case as far as I am concerned right now - I'm the nearly man. But that said, even though I am not scoring the goals at the ratio that I normally do it is more important that the team is winning. When my good form comes it will be good to be getting the goals when we are near the top of the league rather than down at the bottom.
Actually, I thought it had come when I scored the penalty against Preston but it wasn't to be. I played in the next game, the 1-0 loss to Walsall, but then I was left out of the starting line-up for the games against Sheffield United, Huddersfield and Crewe.
I hope to start in the home game against Millwall on Saturday but I don't know whether I'll be picked or not. Actually it might sound strange, but it's good because it does not allow you to get into that comfort zone. It means you have to try your best at all times and the challenge is turning it from an uncertainty to a certainty.
If I get the chance to play I believe my best form is just around the corner and so when it comes, watch out!
