Bermuda bounce back

Bermuda rebounded from its defeat at the hands of Canada in a four game match earlier this week with an emphatic six-wicket win in its first one-day match on Saturday.

Canada was dismissed for a paltry 145 in 39.5 overs and Bermuda hit 150 for four in just 40 overs at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club.

Pacemen Kevin Hurdle (3-24), George O'Brien (3-50) and Dwayne Leverock (2-9) were among the bowling leaders while Saleem Mukuddem led the Bermuda bats with an unbeaten 39 off 71 balls.

According to Cricinfo, Canada coack Andy Pick called the result an ""embarrassment" and the Canadians' poor performance puzzled spectators after their dominating performance in the four-day match when three batsmen scored centuries.

"Since we arrived this morning, everything has been substandard," said Pick in his assessment, "our warm-ups, our practice and our performance."

Mukkudem, who took Bermuda to victory with a six over long-off, told Cricinfo: "It was a huge effort for us to put that defeat [in the four-day game behind us.

"We got off to a fantastic start. It was good to get [out the guys who had got runs [in the four-day game out cheaply."

Hurdle was the early hero, getting Canada captain and star batsman John Davison out for for one and claiming Desmond Chumney early.

Canada and Bermuda play again on Monday at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club. This match is an ODI but also forms part of an ICC Americas Regional Tournament that takes place next week. All other matches in that event take place at Maple Leaf CC at King City. USA, Cayman Islands and Argentina are the three other sides in this tournament.
