Bermuda coach Thompson may shuffle his pack
Coach Kenny Thompson is expected to shuffle his pack as Bermuda play the second match of their three-game Central American tour against Nicaragua today.
Having taken an early lead against Panama in Wednesday night's game, Bermuda slumped to a 4-1 defeat. And Thompson admitted he was disappointed with the team's performance.
“We didn't play very well at all, although we scored first,” said Thompson following yesterday's flight from Panama to neighbouring Nicaragua.
“We would have liked to have at least got a draw but unfortunately Panama scored twice very quickly after half-time.”
With a squad of 20 to choose from, Thompson can today call on experienced players such as former pro Kyle Lightbourne, Kentoine Jennings and Carlos Smith, none of whom started Wednesday's match.
He also has the option of bringing in the skilful Damon Ming, who was so effective in the two matches in which Bermuda defeated Nicaragua at the National Sports Centre last month and in the World Cup qualifying games against Montserrat.
And he may also choose to replace veteran ‘keeper Dwayne Adams with Timmy Figureido who has been recalled to the national squad following an injury suffered by Troy Hall.
While Bermuda beat Nicaragua 3-0 and 2-1 at home, they're likely to expect tougher opposition today as they continue their build-up to June's home and away World Cup qualifying tie against El Salvador.
Today's match is scheduled to kick off at 3.30 p.m. local time at the Caciques Diriangen Stadium in Diriamba.
On Sunday, Bermuda will meet the Nicaraguans again at the Independencia Stadium in the city of Esteli.
