Big knock for Hemp

Skipper for the day against the West Indies A, David Hemp smashed a quickfire unbeaten 79 to lead his county side to a four-wicket victory against the tourists yesterday.

Future Bermuda star Hemp, who has struggled for runs this year, took just 77 balls ? which including six fours and a pair of sixes ? to reach the score as his Glamorgan side chased a whopping 326-6.

Entering the final over needing seven to win, Hemp, last year?s player of the year for the Welsh county, hit consecutive boundaries to lead his side to victory in a rare appearance as skipper.

Devon Smith had smashed 135 for the Windies to lead his side to an impressive total but with just three balls left the winning runs were struck at Ebbw Vale to give Glamorgan their highest ever score when batting second.

Today they can take on Durham in the Pro40 Division One at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
