Boulevard and St. David's set the early pace

@$:BODY-TIMES:IT says something for Andrew Bascome's coaching that his past and present teams are setting the pace in the First and Premier Divisions.BODY-TIMES-2:And while it may be early days yet, Boulevard and St. David's are where the rest of the teams would like to be ¿ leading their divisions with maximum points.St. David's, who were coached by Bascome prior to this season and who have clearly benefited from his stint as coach, are leading the First Division table with three wins from three and threatening to make another push for promotion. St. David's lead the table on goal difference over Social Club while two other teams are three points back on six points in what is promising to be another promotion battle involving several teams. St. David's are already the division's top scorers with 11 goals in the league, but adding another four on Tuesday night when the defending Shield champions won their elimination match against Paget 4-0 to advance to the last eight of that competition. So too have St. George's Colts who edged by Wolves 5-4 after twice coming from two goals down to win with a late goal from Allan Douglas, his fourth of the match and seventh of the early season!St. George's are banking on strikers Douglas and Mackie Crane to lead their push for promotion after a few seasons out of the top division. They are one of three teams tied on six points, level with Somerset Trojans and surprise early division leaders, Social Club, who dropped their first points last weekend to Somerset Trojans. St. David's are expected to make it four wins out of four when they make the short trip across St. George's to Garrison Field to meet X-Roads on Sunday. X-Roads are one of three teams in the division without a win in the league, so St. David's should pocket another three points. The top two spots should remain unchanged as Social Club should get past another winless team, Wolves, who sit second from last in the tables after losses to Ireland Rangers and BAA. St. George's, third in the tables, host BAA at Wellington Oval as they hope to continue their good start of two wins in three matches while Somerset, who have already beaten two of the three teams above them (Social Club and St. George's) will be seeking their third win from three outings when they travel to White Hill for a west end derby against Somerset Eagles. The match has been switched to a 3.00 start. In the other First Division match Prospect should take all three points off bottom team Paget at Police Field. Boulevard are the surprise Premier Division leaders, although the table is still taking shape with just two rounds of matches. After failing to win a game in the Martonmere Cup, Boulevard have come out in the league with all guns blazing, beating defending champions PHC and North Village to emerge as the only team in the division with maximum points. Form suggests that win number three will come along on Sunday when they host Southampton Rangers at BAA Field. Rangers have started with only a point from two matches but early points are important if they are to avoid the relegation dog-fight later in the season. Devonshire Cougars are the only other unbeaten team in the Premier Division, starting off the new season with a big win over Dandy Town before dropping two vital home points to Devonshire Colts in a 1-1 draw last Friday. If they are to be serious title contenders then nothing less than maximum points against Hamilton Parish ¿ who managed to beat Colts 4-1 in their season opener ¿ will be good enough for coach Devarr Boyles. The pick of Sunday's matches in the Premier Division will be at Southampton Oval where defending champions PHC entertain Dandy Town as new Town coach Meshach Wade meets his former club. After a winning start in the Martonmere Cup, PHC were brought down to earth by Boulevard. Last weekend's win over Rangers suggests PHC are back in their groove, but Kyle Lightbourne's men must remain focused as upcoming matches could shape their season. After Town on Sunday they will meet North Village in the Martonmere Cup semi-final before taking on Village again in the league on November 2. The first Martonmere Cup semi-final will be held on Tuesday between Dandy Town and Devonshire Cougars. Village's early form has been disappointing by their own standards, but they are still in contention for the Martonmere Cup, even if they are yet to win in the league after two attempts. Devonshire Colts, with some early season problems of their own, would dearly love to get their first win under their belts at Police Field against the Rams.
