Bowlers learned a hard lesson ? Logie

Despite watching his side take a hammering against the South Africans on Saturday night, coach Gus Logie insisted that their performances as a whole during the tournament had been overwhelmingly positive.

The Trinidadian, however, expressed disappointment with the way in which the bowling attack had conspicuously failed to fire in the final and delivered the simplest of messages ? bowl short and wide against quality players, and you are asking for trouble.

?I think the bowlers have learned a hard lesson tonight,? he said. ?We talked a lot beforehand about how we were going to have to bowl against them but we just did not put those plans into practice and we got punished for it.

?These guys are very good players and if you give them any width they will capitalise every time. I think some of the guys struggled to adapt to the restricted run-ups. They?ve been practising coming off a shorter run in the nets, but if you are not used to it in a match situation it can be difficult to find your rhythm ? which might explain why we had some problems putting the ball consistently in the right areas.

?Overall though I?m very pleased that we made the final and we played some good cricket this week. It?s very rare that we get to play at home and I think the players really enjoyed the occasion and the atmosphere.

?We are obviously preparing for something which goes well beyond the 20-20, and I think the guys will have learned from playing in front of big crowds and under lights and can only go from strength to strength because of this experience.?

A triumphant Kirsten, meanwhile, agreed that Bermuda?s bowlers would have to demonstrate more consistency if they wanted to be competitive at the World Cup.

?It?s a little unfair for me to judge their bowling on the back of a 20 over game,? he said.

?But I think they?ve just got to concentrate on hitting the right areas and being as consistent as possible, which is something that might come from experience of playing at a high level.

?There were quite a few loose balls on offer when we batted which they will have to try and eradicate by the time they get down to the Caribbean.

?We?ve all really enjoyed this week and it has been a pleasure for us to come and play cricket in such a wonderful tournament in Bermuda. The crowds have been fantastic and the whole event has been very well organised.

?I?ve had a good week with the bat. I don?t play at all back home, but it has been nice coming here and playing some lower-key cricket with no real pressure.

?I hope the tournament continues because there?s no doubt we?ll be back.?
