Bromby still in Pre-Olympic lead
Peter Bromby has forged ahead at the top of the Pre-Olympic Regatta standings on a day of mixed fortunes.
The Island Star class skipper and crew Lee White, leading at the start of the day, came tenth in the first race in Athens, Greece yesterday, but followed that up with a bullet.
Team leader Andrew Palfrey said: "The tenth could have been a fourth or a 13th - tough racing!"
Bromby, who later discarded that result, then went from gun to gun in the second race.
"Everyone was up and down today," said Palfrey.
To illustrate that one time regatta leader Iain Percy is now down in 13th overall after losing his mast over the side in the first race while pushing too hard.
Conditions have been a little hot to say the least.
"The Meltemi northerly wind (has been) coming off the land at about eight to 14 knots under clear skies," said Palfrey. "If you have ever been to Melbourne in mid-summer during a heatwave, it's the same as here. The wind was quite shifty, but made for better sailing than the previous two days."
Bermuda's other competitors, Paula Lewin and her Yngling crew of Peta Lewin and Carola Cooper had a rest day yesterday.
