Cann back as Bermuda go for ODI clean sweep over hosts
Veteran allrounder Lionel Cann has been declared fit to play and is expected to rejoin Bermuda?s squad for today?s second ODI and opening Americas Championship clash with hosts Canada at Toronto Cricket Club.
Cann was sidelined during Saturday?s first ODI between the two Americas region heavyweights after experiencing soreness in his lower back.
The St.George?s Cup Match skipper posted impressive scores of 48 and 30 during the Intercontinental Cup game against the Canadians.
Cann could possibly claim Delyone Borden?s vacated spot as the St.David?s allrounder departed for the US yesterday to resume his college studies in Florida.
Somerset batsman Azeem Pitcher joined the squad as a reinforcement on Saturday after St.David?s allrounder Arthur Pitcher jr could not make the commitment.
With Borden gone, wicketkeeper-batsman Kwame Tucker is now a likely candidate to open the innings with Stephen Outerbridge.
Bermuda skipper Irving Romaine is also expected to play despite suffering a slight groin strain during Saturday?s comprehensive win.
Romaine was due to be assessed by team physio Craig Brown yesterday.
Meanwhile, seam bowler Ryan Steede continues to have treatment for an injured right knee, and isn?t expected to be included in today?s squad.
Steede and Cann were two of three changes made to Bermuda?s team for last Saturday?s ODI with Canada.
Tucker came in for Dean Minors ? who has returned home to tend to personal matters ? Hasan Durham replaced Cann while fast bowler George O?Brien jr came in for the injured Steede.
Bermuda take on a Canada side today at Toronto Cricket Club that has undergone seven changes, and will be without the services of key fast bowlers Umar Bhatti and Henry Osinde, batsmen Geoff Barnett and Stewart Heaney, and spinners Sunil Dhaniram and Puvendran Ravishankar.
Batsman Qaisir Ali is also out through injury, Canadian team officials have confirmed.
