Cann tells team-mates ?forget about it?

Lionel Cann is calling on his team-mates to ignore the expected barrage of criticism over his team's performance against the Jamaicans.

The explosive batsman ? bowled first ball by Odean Brown in Friday night's Stanford 20-20 tournament as his side scraped to 74 and ultimately lost by nine wickets ? was quick to try and move on from the defeat, calling it "just a one off", and urging his team-mates to forget the occasion.

Cann was surprisingly chipper during the 21-hour journey home ? during which Jamaicans Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels would have scored more than 3,000 runs at the average rate they were going.

"People are going to talk when we get back, we know that," said Cann, who was also out first ball in his league game yesterday.

"If we had won they would have had something to say, probably saying the Jamaicans weren't trying, and they are going to have something to say again now we lost.

"No doubt the old players are going to say that 'they never had it so good in their day' but we are getting used to that now and we have to be strong.

"We know we are good players, we know that was a one-off defeat against a team with eight Test players in it and we know that there is very unlikely to be another day when all the main batsmen fail.

"OJ is one of the safest pairs of hands we have ? that dropped catch was one in a 100. If he had got that, that would have made things very different ? I'm not saying we would have won, but it would have been more respectable.

"This was 20-20 against a very good team ? we haven't faced that sort of bowling before ? this sort of thing won't happen again."

Typically the lively Cann did his best to cheer up some of his more disconsolate team-mates yesterday and he hopes they won't dwell on the defeat too much.

"We all need to move on, we all need to forget about this game and concentrate on moving forward," added Cann.

"It is not going to help us to keep thinking about what happened, it won't happen again. You have to be strong, you have to be positive and not worry about what people are saying about you.

"We have to believe in ourselves. We know what we have achieved and we know what we capable of so we have to ignore everyone else and just get on with it."
