Championship is on the line

Just who walks away with the 2002/03 First Division championship could very well be decided by goal difference tonight.

As it stands now, leaders Southampton Rangers hold a one goal advantage over a Hamilton Parish side who have drawn several of their recent matches after threatening earlier in the season to run away with all the spoils.

The teams are even on points.

Tonight at St. John's Field, Parish take on a St.George's side who they have yet to defeat this season while Rangers and FA Cup finalists Prospect do battle at BAA Field.

Parish and Rangers will also go head to head in this Sunday's First Division Shield final at the National Sports Centre.

Bermuda Football Association rules and regulations state that "in the event of two or more membership organisations being equal on points for any position in any divisional tables at the close of the competition, goal difference shall decide.

"Should that not break the deadlock then goal average will decide. Should a deadlock still persist then the team having the highest aggregate of goals from games played between the two teams in the division shall be awarded the higher position."

Hot Peppers defeated Southampton 2-1 last October while the two promoted clubs drew 1-1 last February.

PHC Zebras advanced to meet Hemisphere Royals in next month's Women's FA Cup final following last Sunday's hard fought 5-3 extra-time win over Dandy Stars at Bernard Park.

Zakiya Maynard and Shuntae Todd both netted twice for Zebras while Dawnette Smith scored once. Damina Caisey, Keoki Dickinson and Georgiana Davis replied for Stars, for whom Janelle Caines missed a penalty.

Zebras now take on Royals who earlier advanced through to the final after it was discovered that Prospect had fielded an ineligible player during their March 9 semifinal at Somerset Cricket Club.
