Clico complete clean sweep

Southampton Rangers wiicketkeeper Rohaan Simons narrowly fails to run out a Clico batsman.

West Indies wicketkeeper/batsman Denesh Ramdin scored an unbeaten half century and spin duo Shazan Babwah and Vishan Jaggessar claimed six wickets between them to inspire visiting Clico Preysal to a four-wicket triumph over a Somerset Cricket Club 20/20 XI at Somerset Cricket Club last night.

The visitors took only 17.5 overs and 77 minutes to dismiss their opponents on a fast deteriorating pitch, and then achieved victory with four wickets in hand and ten balls to spare to complete a clean sweep of all opposition on their five-match tour of Bermuda.

The local team won the toss and elected to bat first.

Off spinner Jaggesar made his presence felt in the 16th over when he claimed the prized wicket of Englishman John Woolnough (33) ? the first of three wickets to tumble in one over in the space of 13 runs.

Woolnough, who batted courageously, hit five fours off 46 balls.

Jaggessar then struck again with the very next delivery when he bowled Jacobi Robinson, who earlier captained Somerset Cricket Club to a 22-run victory over St.George's Cricket Club in the Somerset Cricket Club 20/20 Tournament, playing down the wrong line.

The home team's hopes of posting a big total were then all but dashed when Jaggessar claimed his third scalp of the over by having a free-scoring Allan Douglas jr (31) ? who smashed three straight sixes off off spinner Anderson Bryce's first over ? caught at mid-wicket.

Douglas, oozing with confidence, banged four sixes off 24 balls.

Babwah, who had earlier taken the wicket of Sheroy Fubler (one), then returned to add two more wickets to his tally to prevent the home team's tail from wagging.

The Clico skipper ended the innings in style, removing Freston Hurdle (ten) and last man Tamuri Tucker (0) with successive deliveries.

Babwah finished with superb figures of three for 12 off only 2.5 overs while Jaggessar claimed three for 31 off four overs.

Medium pacer Keegan Roy managed two for 16 respectively.

Having restricted their hosts under 150 runs, the stage was set for Ramdin to pick up where he left off the day before against Premier Division champions Southampton Rangers.

After openers Jaggessar (11) and Deepak Kumar (11) had given the visitors a reasonably good start, Babwah (31) and Ramdin kept Clico well on course for victory via a 30-run third wicket partnership in six overs.

Babwah was the more aggressive of the two batsmen, belting three fours and two sixes off 24 balls in 27 minutes before he was caught at square leg off teenage off spinner Tamuri Tucker.

And despite picking up three wickets in the space of 24 runs and two overs to claw their way back into contention, the home team's hopes were finally sunk as Ramdin batted the visitors to victory, smashing successive fours in the penultimate over off Reid Jones to finish undefeated on 50.

The West Indies 'keeper struck five fours and a six off 39 balls in 54 minutes' work at the crease.

Gregg Foggo and Robinson led the local bowling with two for 20 and two for 33 respectively.

Clico, who won all of their five matches comfortably, including two against a young Bermuda National XI, return to Trinidad and Tobago today.
