Clubs give BCB vote of confidence
Bermuda Cricket Board received an overwhelming vote of confidence from affiliates during two special meetings held last week at Devonshire Recreation Club.
And in a two-page document forwarded to The Royal Gazette, executives from all of the Premier Division clubs and all but three from the First Division confirmed their support for the governing body - despite recent allegations that "unconstitutional" changes were made during March's Annual General Meeting.
Affiliates also criticised the media, claiming that reporting on recent issues had not been balanced.
The statement read: "We, the undersigned authorised representatives of the affiliates of the Bermuda Cricket Board do hereby make this unanimous written statement with respect to articles that have recently appeared in The Royal Gazette newspaper and certain allegations contained therein.
"It has been alleged that the Annual General Meeting that took place on March 11, 2003 and the motions that were passed therein were unconstitutional.
"The affiliates, who were all represented at the meeting, continue to support all resolutions passed at the meeting. Further we fully support all actions taken by the Bermuda Cricket Board at the meeting or otherwise. We understand that the executives of the Bermuda Cricket Board will examine all allegations with respect to the constitution and if deemed necessary appropriate action will be taken to ratify and confirm decisions made at the meeting in a Special General Meeting.
"In any event we consider this is a matter for the affiliates to determine on their own behalf in conjunction with the Bermuda Cricket Board and do not believe this is a matter for open dialogue in the media.
"We trust this will put an end to all continuing discussions in the media which we believe has at times not represented balanced reporting and has done nothing but damage the reputation of the Bermuda Cricket Board and the game in Bermuda."
BCB president Reggie Pearman has continually declined to comment to The Gazette over allegations which surfaced as a result of the AGM.
