Coddington earns trial in Italy
Devonshire Cougars midfielder Domico Coddington has embarked on a ten-day trial with Italian Serie C club AS Acireale.
The Bermuda international had been playing professionally with Oakville Blue Devils in the Canadian Professional League over the summer months before flying to Italy last Sunday.
Coddington is due back in Bermuda next Thursday and is expected to rejoin his team-mates at the Den in time for next weekend's start of the Martonmere Cup competition.
Coaching assistant at Toronto Lynx Premier Soccer Academy and former North Village player Derrick (Rocky) Bean said: "A friend of mine here in Toronto arranged to have Domico go over to Italy for trials using a few of his own contacts.
"As you know, Domico has been playing over here in Toronto for the past two summers and done exceptionally well. His football has really taken off and everyone loves him over here in Toronto."
Duncan Wilde, coach at Toronto Lynx and a former Manchester United reserve, played an integral part in having the Bermudian take part in the trials in Italy.
Bean has worked alongside Wilde at the soccer academy for the past five years.
"Working with him (Duncan) you get the chance to meet a lot of ex professional players and also work with them," Bean added.
Meanwhile, the 2005-06 football season officially kicks off tomorrow night with the annual Charity Cup at BAA Field.
Beginning at 6 p.m., Lady Cougars renew a rivalry with PHC in the women's Charity Cup before five-time men's Charity Cup winners North Village bid for a record sixth title against challengers Cougars at 8 p.m.
Village will also bid to equal PHC Zebras' record of four consecutive wins, having won the showpiece for the past three years on the trot.
