Collieson hoping to XL at home

After the disappointment of Davis Cup defeat in Costa Rica, James Collieson is looking forward to Bermuda's Wimbledon - the XL Open.

Collieson has been handed a wildcard to play in Saturday's qualifiers of the Challenger event at Coral Beach and is looking to put in a strong performance.

“This event is a great festival of tennis and I am looking forward to being part of it,” said Collieson, who played in the tournament's main draw in 2002 after a late withdrawal.

“Anyone who knows anything about tennis knows that there are going to be some very good players here playing at a very high standard. It is a big event and it is always good to be part of it.

“I have been around long enough to know what my chances are, these are all full-time guys and I am a border-line amateur but it is always a great experience.”

Collieson, who arrived back yesterday from Costa Rica, is hoping to go down to Coral Beach today for a knock to see how he is feeling back in the Bermuda conditions he is used to.

It is not yet clear whether Bermudian resident Andy Bray will also be in the qualifiers although he is known to have expressed an interest in playing at the end of last year.
