Collieson wins Games opener
Top Bermudian tennis player James Collieson made a winning start to his Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games campaign yesterday morning in El Salvador.
In his debut, he dismissed Lenin Mongerie of the Virgin Islands in straight sets to advance to the tournament's last 16.
The 25-year-old's 6-3, 6-4 victory earned him the right to play Venezuelan Kepler Orellana for a place in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, over in Mexico, where the sailing segment of the Games is being held, Bermuda's Sara Wright is locked in a tight battle for honours.
After two more races in the women's Laser regatta yesterday, Wright was joint third on 18 points with Venezuelan Andrea Saba.
Mexico's Tania Calles leads the competition on seven points while Virgin Islander Sarah Swan is currently second with 17 points. Six of the scheduled 16 races have now been completed.
Yesterday, Wright finished seventh and second in the fifth and sixth races respectively.
In the men's Laser class, Brett Wright is 12th after six races on 50 points. The Bermudian placed 19th in the sixth race yesterday. Anthony Kotoun of the Virgin Islands won that race and leads the overall event with 15 points.
