Colts display Premier class
Devonshire Colts 3
St. David's 0
Despite a spirited effort, First Division side St. David's bowed out of the FA Cup after a three-goal defeat against Premier opponents at BAA last night.
The quarter-final replay once again saw St. David's dominate their opponents in the first half before falling short of fight and ability in the second half and giving up the chase.
Aljame Zuill had put Colts ahead 1-0 after one minute and then second-half goals by Jason Dill and Michael Bean killed off St. David's.
Once Zuill gave Colts their early lead one feared a lopsided score in their favour, but this was not to be.
With OJ Minors spearheading their attack St. David's besieged Colts' penalty area virtually at will and kept them pinned down for the remainder of the half.
Minors, the best player on the field, tore the defence to shreds and was unlucky to be denied on three occasions with Kevin Bean in the Colts goal in brilliant form.
After 15 minutes, Bean started his night of heroics by diving full length to his right to stop a 15 yard free kick blast from Minors and two minutes later Bean did it yet again when another free kick by the St. David's schemer was sensationally palmed away and off the post.
Three minutes later St. David's again were unlucky when Millard James watched in agony as Bean tipped his shot from 16 yards over the bar.
Colts struggled to gain any sort of initiative to unsettle St. David's, who again had luck against them a minute before the half when that wonderful player Minors continued to haunt them, this time the diminutive forward saw his angled shot from 15 yards skim off the top of the bar.
When play re-started, St. David's came close to levelling the score when a shot destined for the back of the net by Fiqre Crockwell was cleared off the goal line by a defender after just 50 seconds.
The setback clearly bothered the East Enders who were never able to recover as Colts came into the game with momentum.
Jason Dill put Colts ahead 2-0 when he headed home a Damon Francis corner after 48 minutes and with St. David's offering very little for the remainder of the game the inevitable third goal for Colts came at the end when Michael Bean struck home a fierce strike from 16 yards.
