Douglas springs upset

Teenager Romar Douglas provided the weekend's only upset at the 2002 Colonial Open tennis championships at Pomander Gate.

The 17-year-old toppled Men's `A' singles eighth seeded Martin Zolnai 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 in a fourth round clash.

However, his fine run would come to an abrupt halt in the quarter-finals where Douglas was eliminated in straight sets by this year's runner-up in the Heineken Open, John Johnston. The latter won 6-7, 7-5, 6-3, 6-0.

Johnston will now meet defending champion Ben Ureta in the semi finals.

Top seed in the Men's `B' singles, David Furbert, was ousted by Blen Bean 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, while the women's number one seed Zina Edwards succumbed to Tracey Berell 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.

Berrell, who avenged an earlier loss in the first round of the Women's `A' singles to Edwards, will now play third seed Yuko Girard in the semi-finals before pairing off with Carroll Reid in a Women's Doubles `B' semi-final against juniors Jasmine and Jackie Lambert.
