Fairmont title a first for teenager Cayla

Teenager Cayla Cross made a breakthrough in her young tennis career this week when she lifted the Ladies? Singles B title at the Fairmont Grand Prix ? her first victory in an adult tournament.

Cross, who turned 13 only last Friday, scored a straight sets victory in the final over Clare Warburton, 6-1, 6-3.

The Ladies? Singles A title, meanwhile, went to another teenager as 16-year-old Morgan Lightbourne breezed past veteran Gill Butterfield 6-1, 6-1.

And the Ladies? C crown went to yet another youngster as Rylee MacDonald defeated Sierra O?Meally 6-1, 6-4.

On the men?s side of the tournament, the youngsters didn?t enjoy as much success although in A division play junior David Thomas did get past professional Brent Smith.

The Men?s Singles A title went to Andy Bray who downed David Jenkins 6-2, 6-2 in the final while in the Men?s B, Robert Davis defeated Randy Bean 6-0, 7-6.

The Men?s C final last night saw William Fawcett beat Michael Hamer 6-0, 6-1.
