Paget 0 Ireland Rangers 5

It was one-way traffic at White Hill Field yesterday as Ireland Rangers displayed their promotion credentials with a five-star performance against top-of-the-table rivals Paget.

From the first whistle, the visitors were in complete control and virtually spent the whole opening 45 minutes camped in the Paget half.

The Lions showed little menace in defence and Sean Brangman opened the scoring with a delicious lob. Lloyd Telford grabbed the second from the spot after referee Jose Pimentel had no choice but to award a cast-iron penalty.

Shakir Smith's third came after an impressive dribble down the left, although it was his somersaults after the ball squeezed in that were truly memorable.

Henry Santucci and Jonathan Bean grabbed the second-half strikes for Rangers, and only a miracle and some profligacy in front of goal kept the score below seven.

Paget never came close to getting off the mark.

Dev Colts 0 X Roads Warriors 0

Shannon Burgess squandered a golden opportunity from the penalty spot to earn Devonshire Colts maximum points against lowly X Roads Warriors at BAA Field yesterday.

Burgess' fourth minute spot kick was brilliantly saved by Warriors' ‘keeper Roneko Burchall who dived to his right to deny the former Bermuda national team captain.

And although Colts managed to hold a slight edge for the remainder of the match, X Roads were able to come away with a hard-earned point.

Despite not getting all three points in the bag, Colts still climbed into second spot in the standings after Rangers' comprehensive win over Paget saw the Lions fall slightly off the pace.

St.David's 3 St.George's 3

Teenage midfielder Oronde Bascome scored a spectacular 35-yard tracer to earn St.George's Colts a hard-fought share of the spoils at Lords.

Having already been treated to 90 minutes of pulsating end-to-end action, the crowd gathered for this East End derby were sent over the edge by Bascome in the most dramatic fashion.

Latching onto a poor clearance upfield on the left, the gifted all-rounder rammed the ball into the far top hand corner of the net with his right boot to send his team-mates and fans into a wild frenzy four minutes into stoppage time.

The end result saw both East End clubs join the race for promotion, although the Islanders might have felt a bit undone as they led twice in the match.

Angelo Cannonier put them out front after 13 minutes after he headed home at the back post and the home side appeared to be in full command when Fiqre Crockwell scored the first of two goals with a simple tap-in at the back post from a corner.

However, Rodney (Picnic) Trott's superb 25-yard right-footed free kick two minutes prior to half-time put St.George's back into contention before Ernest Signor equalised shortly after the restart by capitalising on a breakaway.

Poor marking in the area then allowed an unmarked Crockwell to head home from close range to restore the Islanders' lead in the 73rd minute.

But Bascome saved the day for St. George's as the Saltus Grammar School student perhaps gave an indication of even better things to come with his last-gasp rocket.

Prospect 4 Wolves 2

Prospect staged a brave second-half comeback at Police Field, erasing a two-goal deficit to demoralise a Wolves outfit that paid a heavy price for poor defending.

Wolves stormed out to a 2-0 lead by the 35th minute after prolific scorer Vince Minors' 25-yard volley dipped into the back of the net and Jermaine Douglas converted from close range.

However, Prospect displayed more character and determination in the second half and their persistence finally paid off when Leroy Mathurin scored from close range after the defence failed to react in the 49th minute.

Clifford Roberts then drew the two teams level 20 minutes later when he was given a free look at goal after the Wolves defence were again caught napping. Wayne Henry scored what proved to be the eventual winner from close range in the 84th minute before a Jerome Laws strike two minutes later put the match beyond Wolves' reach.
