First Division Round-up

Southampton Rangers issued a stern warning after handing league leaders St. David?s a rare loss at Lords yesterday ? don?t write us off just yet.

The visiting blues handed Warriors their second loss of the season to rekindle their own promotion hopes heading into the Christmas break.

Rangers, who must take maximum points off X Roads at BAA Field tomorrow in order to qualify for the Dudley Eve Trophy competition, remained in sixth- spot in the standings but only trail leaders St.David?s by four-points with a game in hand.

However, yesterday?s win proved anything but a stroll in the park. Instead, it panned out to be a rollercoaster ride from start to finish.

Landro Minors gave St.David?s an early lead only for Donnie Charles to level the scores just prior to the half.

Whatever Rangers coach Meshach Wade barked to his troops during the break took obvious effect as Herbie Dillas and Travis Wilkinson (penalty) netted to give the visiting blues a 3-1 lead.

But Angelo Cannonier?s goal made it 3-2 before Charles grabbed his second to restore Rangers? two-goal cushion.

Cannonier would convert again from the spot but it wasn?t enough to deny Rangers a fifth win of the season.

Wolves came away victorious over Social Club at the Den.

Keimo Smith and Jason Davis each converted to keep Wolves? promotion hopes alive.

Paget came away from Wellington Oval with a slim win thanks to Kenneth (Chin) Durrant?s first-half strike that separated these two promotion contenders.

Durrant netted in the 25th minute of play and his goal stood up to the end as Paget survived some late St.George?s pressure and a Kuma Smith sitter at the death.

Ten-men Prospect edged hapless Eagles at police Field.

Jerome Laws cracked open the Eagles? defence in the 14th minute before John Richmond doubled the home team?s lead.

But Eagles came storming back via a Kedoni Evans goal right on the half-time whistle.

However, is still wasn?t enough to thwart Prospect who had Leroy Mathurin sent off early in the second half after receiving a second yellow card.

X Roads picked up their fifth win of the season at Lords yesterday, shutting out bottom dwellers Parish.
