Fun time for Duval and co.
Returning to Bermuda for the first time since the 1980s has been d?j? vu with a difference for Bob Duval.
Rekindling his love for the Island and its golf courses this week he has noticed changes in both but one thing which is definitely the same is how much fun Duval always has in the Goodwill Golf Championships.
"We're having a wonderful time. I don't think we've stopped laughing yet. It's so much fun. We're laughing at the good shots and the bad shots," confessed the American, playing for Orange Park Country Club in the annual event.
To make it all the more pleasurable, he and his team are doing well! In fact, very well!
Following yesterday's third round, Orange Park were tied for first in the team gross competition and fifth in the team net division. In addition, Duval leads the senior division of the individual Stableford Pro Tournament on 57 points, six ahead of his nearest rival.
"I've played pretty well. I had a few bad holes but today (yesterday) I played well. I came back and birdied four of the last five holes to get 19 points. I am looking forward to playing Mid Ocean tomorrow (today). That's always been one of my favourite courses," said the father of US Ryder Cup star David Duval.
Given that there is all to play for in today's final round and that they "didn't come over here to play for second", Duval will certainly be aiming to put - or rather putt - forward his best strokes.
"Sure I am," replied the 56-year-old when asked if he was looking forward to lifting the championship.
If all goes well, then it will be time to celebrate - not that the Jacksonville, Florida, resident has not been enjoying himself and Bermuda after dark so far. He has admittedly been playing as hard as he has been 'working' on the greens.
"We've been out eating every night and we haven't had a bad meal yet nor a bad dark and stormy either. We're having a great time," he quipped, chuckling.
