Gamecocks lift BBA crown

Favourites Mr. Chicken Gamecocks capped off the most dominant season in their short history when they emerged triumphant from Tuesday night's Bermuda Basketball Association Fall League Championship match at Bermuda High School Gymnasium.

Graham Robinson with 21 points led the way as Gamecocks defeated the Cellular One Tsunamis 69-51.

Mike Smith topped Tsunamis' scoring with 15 points.

Cellular One came out of the blocks fast to take a 6-0 lead but they soon found the going tough with Gamecocks holding a distinct size advantage.

Smith, at 5'9", seemed bothered by the 6'6" Robinson who shadowed him all game.

In the teams' last meeting, Smith poured in 30 points but on this occasion was held to half that tally.

The inside presence of Dale Jackson (13) and Greg Todd (12) along with the shooting of Robinson (21) kept Gameocks in control.

It was the side's first-ever title after finishing as runners-up in their two previous appearances in the final.

"The recent additions to the team, Graham Robinson, Jonathan Lugo, and LaVar Powell all contributed heavily this season and pushed us over the hump," said team spokesman Cleon Furbert.

"But I don't know where we would have been without our veterans Greg (Todd), Dale (Jackson), and Lee Greene.

"Hopefully everyone will return and we can do it again next season."
