Get me goals, Lightbourne told
Macclesfield boss, Dave Moss, has demanded goals from his side - and Kyle Lightbourne has been handed the task of getting them, writes Matt Westcott.
The Bermudian is likely to start up front today when the Silkmen take on Swansea City.
He has been out with an ankle injury and has not had 90 minutes under his belt since Moss took over from Gil Prescott towards the end of the last year.
Macclesfield were second from bottom when Moss became manager but then went eight games unbeaten. However, the charge has come off the rails of late following two 1-0 defeats.
"When I first came here, there was a distinct lack of competition in the squad. Players were assured of a shirt nearly every week. That had to change," said Moss. "I had an immediate and positive response. Just look at the results. We did go eight matches unbeaten, but the slip did come and it has all resulted from not scoring enough goals.
"That must be addressed from within the club. But the good news is that Kyle Lightbourne has only played one game for me and now he is fit he is certainly another option."
Meanwhile, Shaun Goater will get another chance to hit the goal trail tomorrow when he starts in Manchester City's First Division clash with Watford.
Goater will partner Paulo Wanchope up front. He has scored once in seven games but has played a big role in the matches.
Even if he fails to score, the 24-goal striker should keep his berth in forthcoming matches as Wanchope is set to join the Costa Rican squad for the Gold Cup.
