Shaun Goater will consider taking a pay cut to secure a move away from Manchester City, according to a report in a Sunday newspaper.

The fans' favourite said an emotional farewell to City supporters as the curtain came down on Maine Road with a 1-0 defeat to Southampton last weekend.

The Bermudian striker knows he cannot expect a first-team place at City, but believes he still has much to offer.

He was reported as telling the Sunday People: "I want to be playing - even if I have to go somewhere where I'll be earning less.

"I don't want to be seen as someone who is happy just to pick up his wages - if I did I wouldn't be true to myself or the City fans."

Goater has been linked with a possible move to Sunderland, but the Black Cats are yet to comment on the rumours.
