Goater looks on as Reading go top
Reading have vaulted to the top of the English League Championship ? but no thanks to striker Shaun Goater.
The Bermudian was again forced to watch from the bench, playing no part in Saturday's 1-0 away victory over Watford which put the Royals on top of the table.
Steve Sidwell's second-half goal earned Reading all three points.
Nicky Shorey's left-wing cross was too strong for its intended target of Dave Kitson, but Sidwell arrived at the far post to convert.
Despite coming under pressure, Reading's organised defence, marshalled by Adie Williams, hung on to preserve a huge victory.
Nicky Forster returned to partner Kitson in the Reading attack, while James Harper and Shorey were also recalled. But once again there was no place for Goater in the starting eleven.
