Goater not fazed by Chelsea cup visit

While it's hardly just another game, Shaun Goater was less excited than most when Reading drew moneybags Chelsea in the next round of the Carling Cup.

The First Division Royals progressed to the next round courtesy of a 1-0 win over Third Division Huddersfield at the Madejski Stadium last week.

Their reward was being given one of the ties of the round against Claudio Ranieri's high-fliers.

Chelsea spent over ?100-million over the summer thanks to the deep pockets of Russian owner Roman Abramovich. Among the stars they bought were Argentine hitman Hernan Crespo, Romanian hot-shot Adrian Mutu and homegrown heroes Wayne Bridge and Joe Cole.

However, while Goater is looking forward to the match, the opponents do not have the same mystique to him, having plied his trade in the Premiership until just last season, as they might to some of his team-mates.

"We do have some experienced players in our team such as John Salako, Steve Brown and Adie Williams, but outside of that the majority of players have only played First Division or below," he told yesterday. "They are really looking forward to testing themselves and comparing themselves against top quality opposition.

"I am easy about the draw, I am not overly excited and I am not under-excited. I have played against the big teams before, whereas some of them have not.

"(But) It is good to have a big name come to the Madejski Stadium and hopefully we can do ourselves proud."
