Goater scores as Southend come from behind
Shaun Goater continued his recent scoring spree today as Southend extended their lead at the lead at the top of Coca-Cola League One with a remarkable 4-3 win over ten-man Chesterfield.
The Shrimpers were twice behind before Goater equalised in the 74th minute with his third goal in three matches and Freddy Eastwood secured the win by completing a hat trick seven minutes from time.
Colin Larkin got Chesterfield off to a fine start with the opening goal after 27 minutes but Eastwood levelled from the penalty spot after Janos Kovacs handballed and got himself sent off early in the second half.
Eastwood added a second four minutes later but Chesterfield were not finished and hit back through Derek Niven and Kevan Hurst to force Southend to win it late.
Goater has now scored nine goals for the Shrimpers in his last professional season.
