Horton names Hall of Fame directors

An 11-member Board of Directors for Bermuda's first-ever Sports Hall of Fame has been established and will be chaired by Bermuda Broadcasting Company's Chief Executive Officer Rick Richardson.

Others who will serve an initial three-year term are: Shaun Tucker, Jimmy Amos, Philip Smith, June Dill, Jordy Walker, Dr. David Saul, Charles Brown, Conrad Symonds, Marva Trott and Deborah Hunter.

The announcement was made in a ministerial statement to the House of Assembly by Sports Minister Randy Horton yesterday.

"The directors are charged with establishing the process for receiving and considering nominations for inclusion in the Sports Hall of Fame," said Horton, adding that the directors have wide-ranging sports-related backgrounds and their experience should be invaluable.

The minister noted that a Sports Hall of Fame should present the Island's outstanding sports personalities as symbols of national pride and self-esteem to young Bermudians to help the latter in their development.

"The Sports Hall of Fame will enshrine and memorialise the achievements and contributions to the development of sport in our Island. It is important to recognise people who have made significant contributions to sport. This initiative is intended to bring our sports history alive," added Horton.
