Dandy Town striker Janeiro Tucker's football career remains on hold.

A noticeable absentee during Town's 3-2 season-opening win over PHC last Sunday, Tucker is still experiencing the affects of an injury he suffered to his right ankle last season which may now require surgery.

He will receive further advice from doctors when he travels to Boston later this month.

After moving from Southampton Rangers last season, Tucker quickly became a hit with his new club, regularly coming on as a substitute to score vital goals.

But after taking a mid-season knock to his right ankle, the talented all-rounder missed several matches. And although he managed to get through the cricket season with Southampton, he could often be seen experiencing discomfort on the pitch.

"I just want to make sure that my ankle is alright," said 27 year-old Tucker, who remains active as a junior coach at Southampton.

And he's hopeful that the injury will not require surgery while remaining optimistic about making a speedy return to Town's attack.

"I want to play badly but unfortunately right now I just can't," he added. "First I received an injury to my right ankle a few seasons ago and now it's my left."

Tucker also suffered a career-threatening injury to his left knee several seasons ago.

"Really, it was both knees. But I guess that's just all part of the game," he added. "It's really painful whenever I try to push off on it (ankle). It's been like that all summer. But hopefully it won't require surgery because I really want to get back in the action."
