Island pair help UK team to easy win

Young Bermuda cricketers Chris Foggo and OJ Pitcher were both at the crease when the winning runs were scored as their adopted team, Pyrford, crushed arch-rivals Leatherhead by eight wickets on Saturday to remain tied at the top of their English league with Kingstonian Cricket Club on 60 points.

Dismissing their opponents for a paltry 55 in just 32 overs, Pyrford raced towards their third consecutive win of the season, with Foggo unbeaten on 28 and Pitcher - who opened his overseas account with a huge six - supporting with 13 not out.

Pitcher also bowled a tidy nine overs, giving away just seven runs for no wickets.

The local pair were also at Lords during the opening day of the first Test match between England and Sri Lanka on Friday.

The pair are expected to have their work cut out for them this week as they represent a Fuller's Brewery Surrey County League select, comprised of all the top players in the Surrey County League, in a match against a rival league tomorrow.

This Saturday, Pyrford are at home to Churt Cricket Club while on Sunday the local pair will see action for a British West Indian Airlines (BWIA) select in the West Indian Cricket Competition - formerly the Clive Lloyd Trophy - which is a countrywide tournament with the final slated for the Headingley Test ground in Leeds.

It appears as though Wendell White has failed in his bid to have his name cleared by the BCBC.

After being hit with a four-match suspension by the governing body for taking part in an interview with The Royal Gazette upon his return from the senior national team's tour of in Argentina last March, White submitted an official appeal before venturing off with club team Somerset to Barbados earlier this month.

But since returning, he has not been summoned to appear in front of the board and in any case is now eligible to resume playing this weekend, having sat out the imposed ban.

When contacted yesterday, officials from Somerset Cricket Club and BCBC president Reggie Pearman refused to comment on the matter.
