It's official: PHC take title
PHC 146-6
Somerset Bridge 112
PHC won the First Division championship with a 34-run victory over Somerset Bridge at White Hill yesterday to officially gain promotion to the Premier Division.
The victory saw PHC finish at the top of the tables, beating off a strong challenge by Devonshire Rec., who also won their match against Social Club.
In a game reduced to 33 overs because of rain, PHC reached their respectable total thanks to the batting of player-coach Andre Manders who struck 40. Also among the runs were Charles Symons with 29, opener Arthur Richards on 20, Cal Waldron on 13 and Gordon Anglin on 12.
Denzil Dill was the pick of the Bridge bowlers with two for 25 off seven overs while Nakia Smith finished with two for 38 off seven overs.
The Bridge bats found runs hard to come by thanks to some decent bowling, Neil Anglin leading PHC by taking three for 19 off five overs. Manders took two for 13 off five overs, Ed Bean two for 13 off two overs and Waldron two for 25 off seven overs.
Dean Stevens was top bat for Bridge with 26 while Ryan Sheppard followed on 24 and Dill on 18.
Devonshire 420-9
Social Club 102
Devonshire Rec. blasted 420 off Social Club at the Rec. after their opponents had to bowl what amounted to an additional 14.5 extra overs because of wayward bowling.
Social Club conceded a total of 111 extras, including 79 wides and eight no-balls, and then only managed 102 themselves in reply as second-placed Devonshire romped to a comfortable 318-run victory to virtually seal the second promotion spot.
Corey Smith was high man for the home team with 71 off seven fours, while wicketkeeper Ricardo Brangman stroked 11 fours and a six in his 64. Opener Omar Amory scored 47, but the runs were not confined to the top order as the tail wagged with number nine bat Dennis Williams scoring 60 not out from five fours and and four sixes. Winston Trott added 30 in the middle order as the pair put on 73 for the eighth wicket.
Will Furbert, with 15, was the high man in Social Club's reply as Ryan Swan took five for 45 from ten overs and Williams three for 31 off eight.
Warwick 115 , Police 117-7
Ten-man Warwick had Police in some trouble at 69-6 in reply to 115, before Police pulled out two trump cards ... veterans Ferdinand Thorne and Dennis Archer to spoil Warwick's promotion push.
The two stalwarts, batting at seven and eight, kept Police in the match with knocks of 22 each, with Archer sharing in an unbeaten 26 for the eighth wicket with H.Clarke.
Warwick had early success against the Police batsmen with Andrew Rollins offering the main resistance with his 17. Robert Richardson claimed three for 33, Dion Stovell two for 43 and Steven Bremar Sr. two for 21 for Warwick.
Stovell was high man in the batting with 54 at the top of the order, with L.Caines (12) the only other bat in double figures as former Warwick player Alan Wilkinson enjoyed a good day with the ball, taking six for 28 from nine overs.
