Jasmin to make local debut
TEENAGE US college football girl Jasmin Johansen, who has already represented Bermuda with the national team, is due to make her on-Island debut this Sunday, writes Scott Neil.
The 19-year-old made a name for herself as a goal-scoring ace during her time at Woodward School for Girls in Quincy near Boston where she scored 104 goals and 64 assists over a four-year spell to become the highest football scorer in the school's 112-year history.
With Bermudian parents, the teen's prowess led to a team selection for the Bermuda women's squad which travelled to the Island Games in Rhodes last year and returned with bronze medals.
Now in her second year at Spelman College in Atlanta, where she plays for the school team wearing her trademark No.5 jersey, Johansen is due to play in her debut game in Bermuda when the North Village women's team play Prospect at Police Field at noon on Sunday.
Johansen will be playing for North Village. Her father William played for the North Village men's team in his younger years.
