Jemeiko Jennings might require surgery to his left knee, has learned.

The crafty 24 -year-old midfielder, son of former Reds? striker Garret (Punchy) Dill, has yet to kick a ball this season due to his nagging injury.

Jennings, scorer of Village?s winner in last season?s Martonmere Cup final against Dandy Town at Somerset Cricket Club, was scheduled to meet with doctors yesterday.

Reds? first-year coach Dwayne (Streaker) Adams told : ?He?s experiencing tenderness in his left knee and doesn?t know what?s causing the discomfort. Jemeiko has had the slight nag for quite some time and it has really bothered him.

?Therefore we all agreed he should have it attended to as soon as possible instead of risking any further damage by playing on it.?

Jennings, Adams further disclosed, has undergone physiotherapy ?over the past few weeks? but has now been advised to seek further recourse for the injury which continues to rob Village of one of their most influential sparkplugs down the middle.

?It has been suggested Jemeiko seek further medical attention to discover exactly what is causing the problem,? Adams continued. ?We are now entering a very critical part of our season and do miss Jemeiko?s input as a player. He is still a part of us and we wish him well and also a speedy recovery.?

Village have certainly had their share of injuries this campaign, Damon Edwards, Kaiwon Dill, Keith and Jemeiko Jennings all succumbing to problems at one time or another.

Another inspirational player, Vernon Tankard, is presently on football trials in the US while fellow forward Keishen Bean is studying abroad in Havana, Cuba.

Village currently lie fifth in the Premier Division tables on seven points.

The Reds have tasted defeat only twice this season, losing in extra-time to Trojans in last month?s Martonmere Cup semi-final and more recently to defending league and Friendship Trophy champions Devonshire Cougars.

Having been denied a shot at clinching what would have been a record ninth and unprecedented third straight Martonmere Cup title, Village are now focussed on the next jewel set to go up for grabs over the Christmas holiday ? the Dudley Eve Trophy.

But first the Reds must take at least six points off their final three matches and hope either Trojans, Cougars, Hornets or PHC drop valuable points prior to the break in order to qualify for the tournament involving the top four clubs from the top tier.

Village are at home to Devonshire Colts on Sunday and, like PHC and Cougars, have a game in hand over leaders Trojans and third-placed Hornets.

Trojans only require another three points to qualify for the festive tournament but the race for the other three slots remains wide open as the likes of Cougars, Town, Zebras and Village still have a mathematical chance of qualifying.

The maximum amount of points Trojans can obtain is 19, Cougars 18, Town 15, Zebras 17 and Village 16.

Village take to the road for matches against struggling Ireland Rangers and Dennis Brown?s red-hot Trojans at Somerset in their remaining first -half of the season fixtures.

And although Adams won?t be able to field his strongest possible XI, the former Bermuda international ?keeper remains confident in the abilities of those players he does have at his disposal in the run up to Christmas.

?We?re certainly hoping to qualify,? Adams declared. ?We just have to keep focused and consistently chip away at our game plan over the next three matches.?

Adams insists he?s not been frustrated over not being able to field his strongest squad so far this season.

?You can?t lament over what you don?t have. Instead you have to demand the best from what you do have and whatever team I put out there is always going to be the best available,? he added.

?Personally I think the team has reached 70 percent of their potential. I don?t think we?ve peaked yet and this is certainly something we are all hoping to see in the near future.?
