Khano ready to return to Revolution after knee operation
Khano Smith is determined to be included in New England Revolution?s team roster for their tour of Bermuda next month.
The 25-year-old former Dandy Town striker is recovering from minor surgery to his left knee, performed in Boston last week. The injury was sustained five minutes after he netted during his team?s Eastern Conference 3-1 semi-final win over Metro Stars.
Smith flew to Boston last week to have bruised blood and tissue removed from the knee before returning to Bermuda to recuperate at his mother?s Morgan?s Road, Paget home.
The Revs forward is due to return to New England next week where he hopes swelling to his knee will have gone down, allowing him to join his team-mates in pre-season training at Foxboro Stadium.
The Revs are due to arrive in Bermuda on February 13 to begin preparations for their February 22 CONCACAF Champions Cup quarter-final first leg clash with Costa Rica?s LD Alajuelense at the National Sports Centre (NSC).
The Revs will then travel to Costa Rica for the second leg on March 8.
Smith told yesterday: ?It?s only a scope incision and so I?m hoping to play. I shouldn?t be out that long. I just had the knee cleaned up and any bruised blood removed.
?Now I?m just waiting for the swelling to go down so that I can start rebuilding the strength.?
And not only is Smith looking to consolidate a spot on the Revs roster, he?s also keen to put on a Bermuda jersey for the first time since last February.
?Obviously there?s still a bit of discomfort in the knee at the moment but I am still able to get around,? he added.
Smith?s hopes of appearing in a Major League Soccer (MLS) final in his debut year were dashed when he hyper extended the knee playing against Metro Stars.
?It was disappointing to have to miss the final,? he lamented. ?I was there sitting on the bench and it was frustrating, especially whenever you can?t play.?
The Revs were beaten 1-0 in the final by LA Galaxy in Dallas.
?We?re now looking forward to winning it (championship) next season because we have the team capable of achieving it,? he added.
During the festive break Smith, who scored four goals for the Revs on his debut season, was spotted in and around local football venues supporting his beloved Hornets.
Town featured in the Dudley Eve Champions Cup competition, advancing to the semi-final where they were beaten by eventual champions Devonshire Cougars at Somerset Cricket Club.
?I?ve just been relaxing and enjoying my time off. As a former Dandy Town player obviously I still have the urge to play for them. And I think they are doing fine.
?Carlos (Smith) seems to be in splendid form, scoring in almost every game and it?s nice to see some of the younger players like Lashun (Dill) and Seion (Darrell) getting a chance.?
Smith said he couldn?t wait to suit up in Bermuda colours next month when Kyle Lightbourne?s national squad play a series of friendlies with the Revs at the NSC.
?I know I will be playing against them (Bermuda) but hopefully I will also be able to play with them.?
Smith is due to return to Boston late next week. The Revs official pre-season training begins next Monday.
?I will be heading back to Boston next week and will be returning to Bermuda with the team next month,? he vowed.
lBermuda Football Association will be holding a special forum next Monday at BAA clubhouse for all local coaches.
The primary purpose for the meeting is to gather feedback on ways to help raise standards locally, explained BFA technical committee member and former national coach Mark Trott.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
?To this end we will provide information on the BFA?s mandate in respect of what FIFA expects and we are encouraging all coaches to provide constructive criticism and possible solutions on moving the game to another level both domestically and internationally in regards to coaching,? Trott said.
