Kyme beaten in final

Nick Kyme, Bermuda's number one squash player, lost in straight games on Friday night in the final of the Queen's Park PSA Challenger tournament in Trinidad to world number 14 Martin Heath of Scotland.

Although defeat was never in doubt, the world's 162nd ranked player put in a creditable performance, getting to double figures in the final two games against an opponent who has been in and around the top ten in the world for a number of years.

The final score read 15-4, 15-11, 15-12.

Perhaps a more meaningful indication of the rapid progress Kyme has made since the summer came during his semi-final match against Max Weithers from Guyana, who Kyme only narrowly defeated in five games at the Carribbean Championships in Barbados last August.

It was a different story this time round with the ever improving 22- year-old defeating the experienced Weithers in straight games, 15-12, 15-13, 15-11.

Kyme now returns to the States for a tournament in Sea Bright, New Jersey before heading for Mexico towards the end of this month. The Mexico City Open will mark the conclusion of an exhausting schedule for the Bermudian, which will have seen him compete in five separate tournaments in just over four weeks. However, Kyme can expect to see his world ranking improve by as many as 30 places.
