Larry pleased with the past ? looking to the future
Generally pleased by objectives met by his administration in his first term in office as president of Bermuda Football Association, Larry Mussenden is now looking forward to taking on future challenges with an air of confidence.
The BFA chief, currently bracing himself for the potential challenge for the top post at this month?s Annual General Meeting, said his administration had achieved considerable success in a short period of time, though Mussenden was quick to add ?much? more work still needs to be done before local football is restored to its former prestige.
?I am extremely confident based on the fact the affiliates have been part and parcel of the work we have done over the last three years. We have enjoyed open communication between the executives (BFA) and the affiliates and they do recognise we have been working for them,? he told .
?I am running (for re-election as president) based on the last three years in which a huge number of accomplishments have been made. We (BFA) haven?t been idle. We have have been extremely busy working on the progress and development of local football at all levels.?
During his first term as president, Mussenden has watched the association grow from ?strength to strength?.
?I am very happy that we have been able to secure sponsorship for the Premier Division and remain in the process of completing sponsorship for the Women?s Division,? he added. ?We have also secured sponsorship from Appleby Spurling Hunter (formerly Appleby Spurling and Kempe) for our various youth divisions.
? We set out to achieve goals in many different areas and so we have formed standing committees to address these various issues but there?s still more work to be done.
?But what we have accomplished at the international level is that we now have three Men?s teams training which actually provides for transition and progression by our youth players right into our senior programme ? and that is a major accomplishment which has not been in existence for many years.
?It is paramount Bermuda is represented at every level on the international scene and I think this is one of our major accomplishments. But these things take years to achieve . . . they just don?t happen overnight.?
As for the rebel group which threaten to end Mussenden?s tenure at the helm of local football, the BFA chief said he welcomed any challenge, though he quickly pointed out that it will be the affiliates who will have the last say.
He said: ?The new group (reported to be former administrators) seeking to come in seem to possess their own ideas. So I guess it will be very interesting for the affiliates to listen to them and then decide if they wish to continue having me as the president or if they wish to go with the other people.
?But hopefully they will continue to have me as president and I look forward to their support in that regard. I haven?t encountered any major complaints from any of the clubs other than perhaps one or two over the last three years.
?And if re-elected I hope my administration can continue to achieve our objectives at the same brisk pace with the continued co-operation of the affiliates as we have had in the past.?
