Lewin looking to improve

Paula Lewin, Carola Cooper and Peta Lewin compete last week in the Rolex Miami Olympic Class Regatta.

Paula Lewin will be hoping for better results on the water today and tomorrow to bolster her chance of winning the Yngling Class in the USA Olympic Pre-Trials Regatta.

The Bermudian sailor finished seventh, 12th and fifth in the first three races of competition yesterday in Miami, Florida.

"It's okay but not great. We're a little disappointed. We could have been better. We just didn't sail our best.

"In the other regatta (last weekend's Rolex Miami Regatta) we sailed well but had some unlucky breaks but today was just a bit of a flat day for us," said the 31-year-old last night, adding that conditions were initially "very light" but eventually became windier.

Lewin will be aiming to improve in the remaining four races.

"We're hoping to do well enough that our 12th (in yesterday's second race) will be our throw-out," indicated the skipper who again has her twin sister Peta and Carola Cooper as crew.

"Looking at our early results, we're still in the hunt. We just have to sail better."

At press time, results indicating Lewin's overall position in the standings were unavailable.
