Sailor Paula Lewin remained third in the standings at the Rolex International Women's Keelboat Championship yesterday - but any hope of winning was lost.

The top Bermudian female managed a sixth and ninth in races eight and nine, but with just one race remaining, Cory Sertl of the United States has already wrapped up the title.

Sertl sits atop the 61-boat fleet with a spectacular score of 23 points, 11 less than second-placed Carol Cronin, while Lewin is eight further back on 42.

Indeed, Lewin will have her hands full just to remain on the podium, as she leads Nancy Haberland by a mere three points heading into the final day today.

Sertl endured her worst day of the week, recording a seventh in race one, which will currently stand as her drop score, before coming back to finish third behind Cronin and Haberland the second time out.

Lewin, with a crew of four, including sister Peta, Lisa Neashum and Leatrice Roman, performed admirably in difficult conditions off the coast of Annapolis, Maryland, but couldn't do enough to close the gap on the overall leader.

Today has one race taking place this morning.
