Local umpires honoured
Just one week after being informed that they had become fully qualified West Indies Cricket Umpires Association officials, Lester Harnett and Stephen Douglas have been chosen as Bermuda's umpires for the Americas Cup tournament in Argentina, starting next week.
Long-serving Harnett is president of the Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association while Douglas is the assistant secretary-treasurer.
"It's really good news for the association, there is no doubt that the two deserve the assignment after having worked so hard over the years to reach their current levels,"' said Randy Butler, secretary of the BCUA.
"They were both very active during the ICC under-19 American Regional Cup tournament in Bermuda last summer with evaluaters obviously recognising their ability to perform under stressful conditions."
Bermuda's contribution of umpires to the Americas Cup has been increased from one to two after George Francis was the sole representative at the inaugural tournament in Toronto two years ago.
