?Men against boys?

Bermuda walloped the British Virgin Islands 9-0 last night to emerge as strong favourites to move forward to the next qualifying stage of the FIFA World Youth Championships.

Having beaten the highly-fancied Bahamas 2-0 on Wednesday night in the US Virgin Islands, Keishen Bean?s under-20 side were expected to dominate the rest of the tournament.

But the scale of the victory over BVI surprised even coach Kyle Lightbourne, who described the one-sided encounter as ?men against boys?.

Devonshire Cougars? Reggie Baker netted a first half hat-trick while Angelo Simmons scored in the 23rd minute to take Bermuda into half time four goals to the good.

And PHC?s Cecoy Robinson continued the onslaught straight after the break, while Ajani Gibbons (51st), Jade Foggo (68th), Mcquinn Burch (81st) and Jason Smith (88th) completed the rout.

Regrettably, Boulevard?s Dunn?ya Taylor was sent off in the 64th minute for what the referee deemed a dangerous tackle, but Lightbourne insisted afterwards that the punishment was ?excessive?.

The former Stoke City striker was pleased overall, however, that his charges maintained their attacking intent despite limited incentive against such poor opposition.

?We expected to win this game ? but after half time they put up absolutely no fight whatsoever and it could have got into double figures,? he said.

?The sending off was unfortunate and puts a bad taste in the mouth after such a big win ? but I really don?t attach any blame to Dunn?ya. He was going for the ball, there was no malicious intent, and he was just a little bit late and it looked a lot worse than it actually was.

?We?re in a great position to win the group now and go through the the next stage. The game against USVI will be harder, as they beat BSVI 3-0 on Wednesday night ? but I still expect us to win comfortably if we play well.? Bermuda?s final game is tomorrow night, kicking off at 7 p.m. local time.
