New club in Commercial League

A new club, Centurions, will make their debut in a seven-strong Commercial Cricket League which will get underway two weeks later than normal on Sunday, May 18.

Monday night's annual meeting agreed to accept Centurions, made up principally of players associated with last season's league champions Leg Trappers, who have been promoted to the Bermuda Cricket Board's First Division.

Of last season's other clubs only Police Recreation Club, who struggled to field a team most weeks and pulled out of the knockout tournament, failed to return, easing fears of the smallest turnout for 20 years.

A new annual cup, the Commercial League Memorial Trophy, donated by North Village in memory of deceased players and officials, will wrap up the season at the end of September with the 2003 league champions taking on the knockout winners.

Centurions have drawn a bye in the opening round of the league. The opening fixtures are: Jamaican Association v West Indian Association; Devonshire Stars v Forties; North Village v St. David's.
