North Village striker Keishen Bean is enjoying the best season of his young career.

And already there are those around Bernard Park who have put Bean in the same mould as the late Charlie Emery in terms of the player?s natural goalscoring prowess.

Having earned a starting spot in Dwayne (Streaker) Adams? squad, the 18-year-old striker has been merciless in front of goal, banging in seven goals in his last four starts.

Bean also accomplished a rare feat last month, scoring three consecutive braces against Devonshire Colts (twice) and Boulevard just months after returning from brief studies in Havana, Cuba.

Now the Bermuda College student and son of former Somerset Eagles and Southampton Rangers midfielder, Wayne Bean, has set himself lofty goals for the end of the season.

With victory over nearest rivals and defending Premier Division champions Devonshire Cougars last Sunday, Village are now two points from clinching a third league championship in five seasons and seventh overall.

Yet winning another league title won?t totally satisfy Bean, godchild of former national coach Kenny Thompson and brother of Alexis Bean who set a new record in the Girls Under-18 Front Street Mile race last month.

?I would like to see us win the triple crown championship. Can you imagine wining the triple crown at age 18? That would certainly be a great achievement,? Bean told hours after netting Village?s first goal against Cougars at Bernard Park.

Former West Ham and Somerset Trojans striker Clyde Best was the last local teenager to be on a triple crown championship team in 1967-68.

The triple crown haul consists of Premier Division championship, FA Cup and Friendship Trophy.

However, history shows that only four clubs have been able to achieve the rare feat, Village the last club to come agonisingly close when they won the league and FA Cup in 2002 but lost to PHC Zebras in the Friendship final.

Defunct Vasco da Gama were the last club to win the triple crown in 1997-98 while Village last achieved it 1977-78.

Zebras and Somerset Trojans are the only other local clubs to win the triple crown, the latter the only club to do so in consecutive seasons (1967-68 and 1968-69).

Since getting the call to senior team duty, Bean has wasted little time mixing it up with the league?s big boys. And the teenage striker is quick to admit that playing at the highest level domestically does have its challenges.

?I have been through some challenges at the senior level and there were disappointing times when I only wanted to play for the Under-18 team,? added Bean, who has also represented Bermuda at the international youth level.

?But Streaker (Adams) and Maceo (Dill) have really come up big and helped take my game to another level. They have really been there for me the whole time helping me out. They helped keep my morale high. Now I just have to stay focused and keep enjoying my football.?

Bean also hopes to score big in academics.

?First of all before I even begin thinking about football I want to get my education. Once I have education under my belt then I can look into the possibilities of playing professional football,? he said.

?So at the moment I am more focused on getting my education in hopes of one day becoming a physical education teacher or even a physiotherapist.?

As for Sunday?s crucial win over Cougars, Bean said: ?I thought we played well as a team and Kentoine (Jennings), Ralph (Bean), Keith (Jennings), Nakia (Smith) and myself all came up big when it mattered most.?

Bean notched the Reds opening goal with a cracking volley that soared into the roof of the net and then set up Smith?s insurance strike minutes from the final whistle.
