The accolades keep pouring in for John Barry Nusum.

Last year?s Bermuda Male Athlete of the Year and Rookie of the Year for the Philadelphia KiXX in the Major Indoor Soccer League has now been named Offensive MVP for the Virginia Beach Mariners after just half a season with the United Soccer League Division One side.

Nusum?s season with the Mariners finished last weekend and the powerhouse Bermuda striker was delighted with his time on the East Coast.

?I?m glad I came here,? said the striker who was originally set to return the Toronto Lynx before a disagreement with the new coach helped him decide to try his luck further south in the second-strong American league.

?I didn?t join until about halfway through the season and we had only won one game, but things improved and even though we finished second from bottom we were only a couple of results away from the play-offs.

?It was a bit of a crazy year, there were a few management changes here but it worked out well in the end for me.?

Nusum is now temporarily team-less but has a meeting with KiXX management next week and is set to decide his immediate future then. He was an enormous hit in the indoor version of the game last season but the international striker ? who still sits high up the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying scoring charts for his efforts again Montserrat last year ? still hankers after a move to a big outdoor side like friend and international team-mate Khano Smith.

And there is always Europe.

?The timing isn?t great because the transfer window is shut over there and clubs aren?t really looking,? said Nusum, who many on the Island believe has the talent to make it at the next level.

?But I?m thinking about the indoor season. I have to decide whether I want to play another year and then it would be a case of discussing terms, but if I am going to play, it would definitely be with Philadelphia again.

?I had a great season with them last year and I could well go back again.?

After playing back-to-back seasons with barely a week off in between, Nusum is now planning on taking a well-earned rest ? and coming back home.

?I think it?s time for a little vacation,? said the striker.

?I?ll probably come home for a few weeks and have a think about my next move and speak to a few people.?

But Nusum, who was drafted by Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew and also played for Atlanta Silverbacks as well as having trials in Scotland, was adamant he wouldn?t be lacing up his boots for any of the local sides while back here.

?No, this will be strictly vacation,? he stated.

?Although apparently the national team are training again next month, so if I?m around I will try and go to some sessions with them.?
