Onions still in top spot after scrappy stalemate
MR Onions remain top of the Commercial Division A after holding out for a scrappy 1-1 draw against BAA on Saturday.
BAA hit the bar three times from long range in the second half and caught the depleted Onions side napping several times in the opening minutes but poor finishing kept the scores level.
Onions? goal came after half an hour from the in-form Nick Briggs who latched onto a through ball and finished neatly into the corner past the impressive BAA ?keeper.
A number of strong challenges from both sides led to the game threatening to boil over. One incident, according to Onions skipper Steve Smith, saw a BAA forward lash out at Chris Fleming but the punch was not seen by officials.
The equaliser came from the constant pressure provided by BAA?s long throws.
Key West shared four goals with Valley with Roderick Lewis and Peter Ricards on target for the home side, who are second on goal difference, and Abimbila Bademosi scoring both for Valley.
Lobster Pot are third after pulverising Devonshire Rec. Lions 7-1.
Dave Allison grabbed four in the first half, Saleem Mukuddem scored with a characteristic run from inside his own half and Colin James clinically dispatched a header from a corner to leave Pot 6-1 up at the break.
Johnny Lappin calmly converted a penalty in a scrappy second half.
North Village edged out Somerset Bridge Peskies 4-3 with Maceo Dill and Ricky Hill getting two each. Jerome Richards and Leo Simmons netted for Peskies while Village also put through their own net near the final whistle.
Tuff Dogs, who have struggled this season, picked up a useful 2-1 win against Robin Hood who have also had their share of problems. Jermaine Gibbons and Jeff Franklin earned the victory with Massimo Tirotta replying for Hood.
In Division B, Dandy Town Roots were back to their devastating ways as they recorded their biggest win of the season with a 25-0 humiliation of Prospect/Fire.
The hosts were severely punished for showing up with only eight players as Roots led 10-0 at the half. Scoring for Roots were Darron Simons with six, Walter Musson (four), Sean Smith (three), Michael Wells (two), Diallo Sherrieff (two) and Vance Masters, Dwayne Brangman, Curtis Wells, Don Lewis, Calvin Blakendal, Paul Cann, Thomas Raynor and Lloyd Christopher.
Shock of the day was the draw earned by former B Division whipping boys Pest Control who shared the spoils against St. George?s All-Stars in a match that ended 1-1.
Pest Control were one-up through Elvis Edness after just two minutes but Delbert Minors evened things up in the second half.
At St. John?s Field, Vasco and Boulevard fought out a 2-2 draw in a classic game of two halves. Goals from Shane Grant and Cleve Royens put Boulevard up at the break, leaving the Mariners arguing among themselves.
But it was Boulevard who faced similar team spirit issues after the break when Joe Cunha and Andrew Bento strikes tied things up.
At Shelly Bay, Devonshire All-Stars walloped Wolves 5-0. Mark Ray got All-Stars off to a good start with a fierce drive from a corner in the tenth minute. Arnold Todd scored six minutes later. Todd then completed a hat-trick with two clinical strikes early in the second half.
William Benjamin made it 5-0 after a fine pass from Ray Jones and Jones then completed the scoring after dispossessing Troy Bean, the Wolves goalkeeper.
Dockyard Falcons took full advantage over a disorganised Somerset Extros with a 8-3 win at Malabar.
Dwayne DeRosa netted two while team-mates getting on the scoresheet were Anthony Burchall, Joe Pacheco, Sean Symons, Kwasi Hollis, Charles Card and Gary Trott.
The two Somerset teams then made way for Hamilton Parish and Prison Officers who also scored a bucketful of goals with Parish triumphing 10-6.
Irving Burgess got five for the visitors, Elton Caisey and Shane Burgess two and Raymond Outerbridge one. Details of the home side?s scorers were not available.
